The following topics were discussed during the Georgia Professional Standards Commission’s (GaPSC) monthly meetings June 7-8, 2023:
Executive Secretary Report
The GaPSC’s Reading Task Force will convene to make recommendations in accordance with recent changes to the Georgia Early Literacy Act.
Ethics Laurin Vonada, director of the Ethics Division, announced that, beginning in 2024, educators who break their contracts for the upcoming school year by June 1, will not face sanction by the GaPSC.
Rules There was a public hearing regarding the removal of references to DEI – “diversity,” “equity,” and “inclusion” – from the GaPSC’s 2023 educator preparation program standards. During the hearing, over a dozen stakeholders spoke in opposition to the changes. The Commission adopted the new rules, which are effective June 15, 2023.
Educator Preparation & Certification
The GaPSC granted Developmental Approval for the Teacher Support and Coaching Endorsement at Chattahoochee Flint RESA.
The GaPSC granted Developmental Approval for the Computer Science Endorsement at Griffin RESA.
The Commission also granted Developmental Approval for the Computer Science Endorsement at Kennesaw State University.
The GaPSC granted Developmental Approval for the Intervention Specialist Endorsement at Metropolitan RESA.
The Commission granted Developmental Approval for the Personalized Learning Endorsement at Northeast Georgia RESA.
