Georgia Council on Literacy - January 2024 Meeting

On Monday, Jan. 22, the Georgia Council on Literacy met at Heart of Georgia RESA in Dublin, GA, for its quarterly meeting.


Proposed Working Group Framework

Council Chair Scott Johnson introduced Irene Munn, a consultant working with the Governor's Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) and the Georgia Council on Literacy to develop a framework for each working group, which is pictured below. The bulk of the meeting was spent in breakout sessions for working groups, who provided feedback on the proposed framework. Their feedback is available HERE.


Munn also reviewed a schedule for working group meetings throughout 2024, which is available at the end of this report.

Causes of Low Literacy

Garry McGiboney, executive director of government and education strategies for Shareware and chief operating officer for Healthy Security Dynamics, and Arriane Weldon of Get Georgia Reading provided council members with an overview of factors contributing to low student literacy.
