Day 5: One Week Down

An uneventful Friday morning marked the conclusion of the first week of the 2024 Legislative Session. Next week, both chambers stand adjourned as they undertake a series of joint appropriation hearings to review Gov. Brian Kemp's proposed budgets. It is currently expected that the Amended FY24 Budget will be passed by Legislative Day 26 and the FY25 Budget will be passed by either Legislative Day 39 or 40.

Vouchers in Georgia: 2024 Update

Director of Legislative Services Margaret Ciccarelli and PAGE consultant Claire Suggs have developed a short, informational video on school vouchers. Through the video, you can learn about SB 233, which would create a third voucher program,  along with HB 54 and HB 101 , both of which would expand existing voucher programs. Learn more about why PAGE opposes voucher programs due to their negative effects on public education outcomes and finances by reviewing the 2024 Voucher Update video HERE

Legislative Webinars

Earlier this week, the PAGE legislative team led a brief webinar on the 2024 Legislative Session. We discussed various bills and initiatives that may impact public education. We also outlined PAGE legislative priorities and provided information on best practices educators can employ in their advocacy efforts. If you missed attending the webinar live or want to share it with others, you can view a recording HERE.

Additionally, please be sure to join the PAGE legislative team for a short member webinar on Wednesday, Jan 24, at 5 p.m. on Gov. Kemp’s proposed education budget items in the AFY 2024 and FY 2025 state budgets. Register HERE.
