Day 5: First Week of 2025 Session Draws to a Close

Friday's closing gavel in House and Senate chambers marked the end of the fifth legislative day and the first week of the 2025 Legislative Session. It was an uneventful legislative day.


Both chambers will remain in recess next week to conduct hearings on the state budget.

The House and Senate will hold joint appropriation hearings next week to review Gov. Brian Kemp's proposed budgets. Several education-related initiatives are included in both the AFY2025 and FY2026 budgets, including additional funding for school safety.


The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) and other education agencies will present their budget requests on Wednesday, Jan. 17. The full agenda of the hearings can be found HERE.
