Day 1: 2024 General Assembly Convenes



2024 Kick Off

The Georgia House and Senate kicked off the 2024 legislative session by convening briefly for Legislative Day 1. Capitol watchers await passage of an adjournment resolution, which will set the pace and schedule for the remainder of the session.

 

PAGE is excited to welcome Legislative Communications Specialist Robert Aycock to the team, joining Director of Legislative Services Margaret Ciccarelli and Legislative Services Specialist Josh Stephens. Also serving members beneath the Gold Dome this year is Claire Suggs. Formerly a senior education policy analyst with PAGE, Claire will assist the team as a school funding and education policy consultant.

 

Gov. Kemp’s State of the State Address

Gov. Brian P. Kemp will deliver his 2024 State of the State Address Thursday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m.  The governor’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2025 will be released following the address, thus beginning the appropriations process.

Join the PAGE legislative team Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 5 p.m., to learn about the upcoming session of the General Assembly - including information regarding the PAGE 2024 legislative priorities. We will discuss member feedback from the 2023 educator survey and how this data will inform PAGE advocacy during the session. Topics will include information about Georgia's literacy efforts, school funding, school and student safety, and more. We will also provide information on the most effective methods educators can employ when personally advocating for teachers, students, and public education. Register HERE.

 

Join the PAGE legislative team for a short member webinar Wednesday, Jan 24, at 5 p.m. on Gov. Brian Kemp’s proposed education budget items in the AFY 2024 and FY 2025 state budgets. Register HERE.


PAGE Day on Capitol Hill

Join us Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, at the Georgia state Capitol to listen, learn, and, most importantly, advocate during 2024 PAGE Day on Capitol Hill in partnership with the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders (GAEL) and the Georgia Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (GACTE). Attendees will receive complimentary breakfast and lunch. During the morning session, attendees will hear from legislators and other policymakers on pertinent education policy issues including education funding, Georgia's teacher pipeline, the Teacher Retirement System, and more. 

Mid-morning, attendees will engage in advocacy and direct dialogue with legislators under the Gold Dome. The event culminates in a lunch buffet during which state leaders will share remarks. 

 

Past speakers include Gov. Brian Kemp and State School Superintendent Richard Woods.
